SQL

Overview

Nussknacker Sql enricher can connect to SQL databases with HikariCP JDBC connection pool.

It supports:

  • real time database lookup - a simplified mode where you can select from table and filter for a specified key
  • both databaseQueryEnricher as well as databaseLookupEnricher can cache query results
  • you can specify cache TTL (Time To Live) duration via Cache TTL property
  • for databaseQueryEnricher you can specify Result Strategy
    • Result set - for retrieving whole query result set
    • Single result for retrieving a single value

Configuration

You have to configure a database connection pool you will be using in your Sql enricher. It is performed at the root level of the configuration file (the same level as all other configs from Designer configuration area) - see configuration file.

Sample configuration:

myDatabasePool {
driverClassName: ${dbDriver}
url: ${myDatabaseUrl}
username: ${myDatabaseUser}
password: ${myDatabasePassword}
timeout: ${dbConnectionTimeout}
initialSize: ${dbInitialPoolSize}
maxTotal: ${dbMaxPoolSize}
}
ParameterTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
urlstringtrueURL with your database resource
usernamestringtrueAuthentication username
passwordstringtrueAuthentication password
driverClassNamestringtrueJava database driver class name - check your JDBC driver documentation
initialSizeintfalse0Minimum idle size
maxTotalintfalse10Maximum pool size
timeoutstring (Duration format)false30sConnection timeout
schemastringfalseSchema to be set on connections
dataSourcePropertiesstring-string mapfalseDataSource or java.sql.Driver properties

As a user you have to provide the database driver. It should be placed in Flink's /lib folder (/opt/flink/lib), more info can be found in Flink Documentation. Additionally it should be placed in Nussknacker's /lib folder (/opt/nussknacker/lib)

caution

Contrary to its name, SQL enricher is able to execute not only SELECT queries, but also modifying ones (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE). It is recommended to connect with a user that has only read access to the database if you use it only for enrichment.

Next you have to configure the component itself.

You can support various database connections by defining multiple Sql component instances.

components {
yourUniqueComponentName: {
providerType: databaseEnricher #this defines your component type
config: {
databaseQueryEnricher {
name: "myDatabaseQuery"
dbPool: ${myDatabasePool} #refers to your database pool definition
}
databaseLookupEnricher {
name: "myDatabaseLookup"
dbPool: ${myDatabasePool}
}
}
}
}
ParameterRequiredDefaultDescription
databaseQueryEnrichertrueDatabase query enricher component
databaseLookupEnrichertrueDatabase lookup component

Connecting to Apache Ignite

The JDBC driver from ignite-core does not implement some methods used by Sql enricher component. That's why a custom mechanism was needed to compile SQL queries and calculate result typings.

As presented in sample configuration above, use driverClassName: org.apache.ignite.IgniteJdbcThinDriver in dbPool configuration. Also make sure that org.apache.ignite.IgniteJdbcThinDriver is present lib directories of both Nussknacker Designer and runtime e.g. Flink to run Sql component with Ignite.

Only databaseLookupEnricher is currently supported on Ignite.

Handling typical errors

The most common problems are:
